Clinical Myotherapy

Myotherapy is a specialized form of manual therapy that focuses on the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of the soft tissue mechanisms of the body.

When we say soft tissue we mean: muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia (connective tissue) and nerves. Basically these are all the main support for our skeletal structures also and often a myotherapist may be called in to address spinal and skeletal alignment in order to achieve a solution to a pain or mobility problem.

Myotherapy uses many assessments to understand the underlying pathology and cause of the pain and dysfunction. After a thorough medical history, your therapist will then choose form a wide range of assessments to inform them of the correct treatment protocol. Essentially a myotherapist could also be called a neuro-musculoskeletal therapist due to the wide range of assessments and systems they work with,

These assessments range from:

•  Postural assessment
•  Movement (Gait)
•  Neurological
•  Range of Motion
•  Orthopedic testing
•  Palpation of spine, joints, muscles and fascia

After the relevant assessments have been made then a treatment or set of treatments will be selected from the following list:

• Trigger point therapy
• Dry needling
• Cupping
• TENS
• Myofascial release
• Joint mobilizations
• PNF/MET Stretching
• Corrective Exercise
